Here is my entry for the Spring Fling Writing Contest. When I think of spring, I think of how busy life becomes on the farm. New babies arrive (which is my favourite part), and the mommas are hungry. Everyone is happy. But sometimes, the hay shed gets close to empty after a long winter. We pray for green grass so we can send the animals out to the pasture. It sounds easy, right?
Trust me; it's not. Sometimes the pasture is near, but other times they need to be moved a bit further. and they don't exactly follow instructions well. If you have ever moved cows, you will understand.
Out To The Pasture is about chasing cows, directional/positional words and opposites. I loved writing this one. It was so hard to cut words for the purpose of this contest, but I did it.
Enjoy.
OUT TO THE PASTURE
By Darcie Naslund
Spring is here.
It’s moving day!
The grass is green— no more hay!
Out to the pasture, here we go.
Out of the pen and…
No. Out of the pen.
That’s IN the pen.
OUT of the pen.
Now down the road.
Stay ON the road.
Get back on the road.
Not that road.
Now, OVER the bridge.
OVER the bridge.
Not UNDER the bridge.
You’re going to get— stuck.
Okay. I will hop IN to help you get OUT.
PULL!
PUSH!
MOOO-VE!
Oof!
Yuck!
Almost there.
Turn right.
Yes— perfect.
You did it.
I did it!
No. Don’t turn around.
You were right.
LEFT is wrong.
RIGHT is right.
Look—the pasture.
We made it. I did it.
Wait. Don’t STOP—GO!
Out to the pasture.
OUT. TO. THE. PASTURE.
Go.
Pleeease?
Fine.
Do NOT go out to the pasture.
MOOO!
Well, that was EASY.
